Our Duty of Candour

Duty of Candour Report

At New Mind Medical, we are committed to transparency, accountability, and the highest standards of care for our patients. As part of our dedication to these principles, we adhere to the Duty of Candour, a legal obligation under the Health (Tobacco, Nicotine etc. and Care) (Scotland) Act 2016 and The Duty of Candour Procedure (Scotland) Regulations 2018.

What is the Duty of Candour?

The Duty of Candour requires healthcare providers to act with openness and honesty when an unintended or unexpected incident occurs that results in harm, distress, or additional treatment. This ensures a person-centred approach, where those affected are informed, offered an apology, and supported throughout the process.

Why is it important?

Being regulated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS), New Mind Medical is held to strict standards designed to protect patient welfare and ensure ethical, high-quality care. The Duty of Candour is one way we uphold these values by fostering trust and accountability.

Why are we sharing this report?

We believe in transparency and authenticity as key components of the care we provide. By making our annual Duty of Candour report publicly available, we invite patients, families, and anyone interested to see how we prioritise safety, communication, and continuous improvement.

The report outlines any instances where the Duty of Candour was triggered, how these were addressed, and the steps we take to support both patients and staff involved. Even if no incidents occur in a given year, the report reflects the ongoing training and systems we have in place to meet our obligations.
